Fall has always been my favorite time of year.

I love the smell in the air...the earlier evenings...the pumpkins that decorate the grocery store.

I crave Fall.

We decided to take a little roadtrip in search of Fall today.  It's still topping 100 here, in the desert, and we really wanted to spend some time exploring the outdoors.  So we packed up a picnic and headed to Sedona.

It was a gorgeous day!

We found a little creek, and the girls had fun playing in the water...Ivy included :)

It's weird.  I remember the last time we played in the water up there...Tink was about 3 weeks old, Tiara was 16 months, and Sugar was 3.  Jay's sister, Cassie, had come to visit, and it was the first time any of us had seen Sedona.  Cassie and Jay played with Sugar and Tiara in the water at Slide Rock while I sat in the shade nursing Tink.  The pump was still very new to us, and I had cautiously taken it off while they were in the water.

2007 - Tink and I enjoying the beauty of Sedona
It was before I genuinely appreciated what could happen when basal insulin is missed.  It was before I realized how valuable a little cooler would be to avoid overheated insulin.  It was before 6 summers of trial and error with swimming.  It was before I had mastered the art of tweaking her dosages.  It was before I secretly referred to myself as "The Master Insulin Manipulator" (yes, this is true) when asked what I do for a living.

It was before a lot of things.

Anyway, she climbed to 500-something that day.

Today diabetes was just a blip on the radar.  Today it didn't take much attention, it didn't creep up in conversations, and it didn't misbehave.

Today we just got outside, and enjoyed a beautiful Fall day.

Live and learn...we've come a long way, baby!

  3. Yay for you!!!! So glad you could escape the heat, feel fall and enjoy a fun family day without the D monster rearing it's ugly head!!!

You've come a long way, baby!!!!

For the same reasons, we are heading north over one of the fall break weekends. It just doesn't feel like fall down here. We need to see some leaves and breathe crisp, cool air!
