Welcome to 2011!

I have to tell you that I didn't plan for my first post of the year to be an 

open letter to Ricki Lake.

I really wanted to start the New Year, thanking everyone for the support they showed 

Candy Hearts in the 2010 DOC Awards.

I'm feeling overwhelmingly humbled to have been awarded the 

2010 Best Blog Design!

WOW!  Thank you SO MUCH!

I'm genuinely honored, my friends!

I would like to thank Dotty Dot Dot for her help.  

If not for her, I wouldn't have all these snazzy Candy Hearts "blog accessories".  

You see, I really don't know anything about all that fancy dancy computer stuff! 

Shhhh...don't tell anyone.  Let's keep that on the down low, okay?

Yes, I am very honored and will display my badge proudly...

But the award isn't the only thing causing my heart to swell with pride.

I'm honored to share your journey.

Each of you.

That's why I started Candy Hearts.

I felt a need to connect with others who truly understood what this life is like.

And that's how I found you.

And you have...

opened your arms

listened to me ramble

prayed for me

encouraged me

and shared your stories.

For all of that, my friends, I am most honored.

This week, the Type 1 community banded together after Ricki Lake had a slip of the tongue on live television, and implied that "Juvenile Diabetes" is preventable.

OH DEAR.

What happened next was a demonstration of teamwork would make any coach proud.

Within a few short hours, Ricki was issuing an apology and trying to make a correction all over the internet.

I spoke to one of her representatives, and my impression after our conversation was that Team Ricki really wanted to do everything possible to acknowledge the mistake and rectify it.

She went on to give a live statement during her interview on the Joy Behar show.

The T1 community appreciated her efforts, 

but felt that Good Morning America needed to take action as well.  

cricket.

cricket.

Tsk. Tsk, GMA.  You COMPLETELY ignored us.

And it didn't sit well.

T1 supporters sprung into action.

E-mails, comments, tweets, blogs, phone calls...

I was unable to do much in that campaign, but it was AMAZING to watch it unfold.

Diane, Bridgit, Linda, Allyson, Rhianna, Debbie, Dana, Kristie...oh the list goes on and on and on...

HOW PROUD AND HONORED I WAS TO BE A D MAMA!

You guys were ON IT!

GMA (or anyone else, for that matter) WILL NOT IGNORE OUR T1 KIDS!

This morning, at 8 am, I listened as Ju Ju Chang read an on-air statement correcting the mistake.

Man...

I was SO PROUD of my peeps.

I'll tell ya what...

I am HONORED to have y'all in our corner.
