I Want You To Know

That I understand when you say that you're tired from a long night of diabetes.

I understand when your heart skips a beat, waiting for the meter to tick down.

I understand what it's like when your brain lingers, trying to consider all the variables and figure out the numbers racing through your mind.

I understand what it's like to feel as if the rest of the world goes on with their lives, while you feel stuck behind.

I understand that you look and listen for signs of breathing as soon as you walk into the bedroom.

I understand the frustration that comes when well meaning people are constantly telling you how your child can be cured.

I understand the feeling of victory when you see 24 hours of target numbers.

I understand the thrill of ordinary when you see your child participating in everyday normalcy.

I understand.

And I just wanted you to know.

  1. Thanks. Last night I checked my boy at 00:30, and then at 2:40, and then at 5:40, and finally this morning at 7:30. Gave him a total of 32 grams of carbohydrates (we miscalculated the basal dose for the night). But this morning he's with other kids, jumping and playing and swimming and just being the three years old that he is.

  7. Great post! It reminds me of the "I Want You to Know" post I wrote but with a different spin. A spin that is wonderful and so comforting after dealing with some totally whacked out numbers for days. It's so nice to know that although it feels crazy, someone else gets it. :) awesome!
