Going Home

Once upon a time, there was a happy little family.

A mom and a dad.  A boy and a girl.

They moved quite a bit, and were living in Puerto Rico when something unthinkable happened.  At 9 years old, the boy tragically lost his life.  He drowned in the community swimming pool at the apartments where the family lived.

Shocked and overwhelmed, the family was quickly relocated to Washington State.  They were told they would be able live there without the fear of another transfer to interrupt the healing process their broken hearts were facing.

Two baby boys, and a few years later, they were transferred to the Philippines.  It would only be for 2 years, and then they would be able to come back to the place they were trying to put down roots.

But that didn't happen.

Two years after that, they were shipped to the Washington DC area...where they stayed.  The family kept the house in Washington State for many years.  It took a long time before they gave up hope that, one day, they would be able to return.

In that same town in Washington State, there lived another family.  It was turbulent, and offered little security to the children who were growing up there.

Even still there were many happy memories.

Among them...swimming in the lake, camping, fishing, and time spent with life long friends.

Out of a difficult environment came a hard working man with solid ethics, and a desire to create a better future for himself.

He joined the military as a high school graduate and, eventually, received orders to Andrews Airforce Base.

The girl who had lost her brother and the boy across town.

They didn't know each other.

Until one night their paths crossed at Murphy's Grand Irish Pub on King Street in Old Town Alexandria, VA.

When her family didn't go home after their move to the Philippines ...
God sent him to find her on the other side of the country.

And they lived happily ever after.
(Well, they're trying to, anyway.)
