Gettin' Around

I'm transitioning to a new season of life over here.  To be honest, it's been a little harder than I expected it to be.  I figured that having all three girls off to school all day would be a breeze, but I'm finding that it's been a bit more difficult than I thought it would be.  I'm not exactly sure why that is, but...it is.

In the six weeks since school started, I've made unplanned trips to Montana to visit my mother and ailing grandmother, and then to California to attend Ryan's memorial service.  I've set up a volunteer schedule with each of the girl's teachers, this running thing is a work in progress, and I've spent some time in our school's Health Office, helping our awesome school nurse with vision screenings.  I've switched up my work schedule a bit, and just started a firearms class so I can learn how to safely operate a handgun.  (Yes, my friends.  I'll be spending some time at "the range" in an effort to build a new hobby with my beloved, Mr. Rose...who already knows how to do this "gun thing", and has been patiently waiting for me to get the hang of it.)

So I guess you could say I've been getting around.

But I haven't forgotten about the Diabetes Online Community (DOC) I love so much...

  • A few weeks ago, I shared a guest post with Chris over at The Life of a Diabetic.  I talked about something I call "Diasight" -- which is the word I made up to describe the "diabetes intuition" that seems to follow me everywhere I go.  I met Chris at the Roche Social Media Summit at the end of July, and was completely honored when he invited me to share a glimpse into my journey on his blog as part of his series, Diabetes Parenting Week.

  • I also rambled on for almost an hour about my career, blogging, and raising the next generation of the DOC with Chris for an episode of Just Talking.  I had the chance to witness the Diabetes Summit episode in the making at Roche, and it was REALLY cool.  Chris seems to have a natural talent for asking the right questions to keep a conversation flowing...I felt like we were just hanging out, and forgot he was recording!!!  (For the record, I am NOT "getting around" with guys named Chris, so don't start any rumors!)

  • Over at Animas, I shared some thoughts about Guilt, and then wrote a short letter to Sugar, hoping to reassure her that diabetes can't ever change the love my (candy) heart has for her.  I recieved some very touching responses on Facebook, and decided to share it here as well.

  • I was honored to learn today that I've been nominated for a 2012 WEGO Health Activist Award...WOW!!!  Thank you!!  Seriously.  I don't know who you are, but thank you.

I also want to thank my pal, Shelbi, for randomly offering an impromptu photo shoot of my girls...just because.  Just because cool people with awesome skills and a camera TOTALLY ROCK, that's why :)
